How to clean a felt dog bed?

by Supiya Kansakar 11 Aug 2024 0 Comments
Whether your furry companion spends the day goofing in the woods or playing in the garden, your dog deserves a clean, comfortable place to rest their paws.

Choosing the right cleaning method is as essential as getting the best dog bed for your four-legged friend.

So, here are some general tips for a clean, comfortable bed before:

Machine Washable Cover:

To keep the additional layer of protection free from hair, dirt, or stains, just toss it in the washing machine. This is the most convenient solution for keeping the cover fresh and dirt-free with minimal effort. Alternatively, you can hand wash the cover using mild detergent and water.

Vacuuming:

One easy and effective method of removing fur and dirt is to vacuum the felt dog bed on a low setting. This will clean off the stubborn hair that refuses to leave. Regularly vacuum the bed, making it a part of your routine, to prevent the build-up of pet dander and other allergens, creating a cleaner environment for you and your pet.

Remove Stains:

If a visible stain is present, prepare a soapy water solution and gently dab it on it. Let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe it off with a clean towel. Ensure that spills and stains are addressed immediately, as they can become difficult to treat. For difficult-to-remove dirt, use wool-safe cleaners that are pet-friendly.

Air Dry the Bed:

For drying, lay the felt dog bed on a clean surface away from sunlight. Do not use direct heat on the bed, as it may cause the felt to distort or shrink. The best thing to do is air dry the bed in a shady area.

Deodorize if Necessary:

If your dog's bed has a foul smell that doesn't go away, sprinkle a small amount of baking soda all over the surface. Leave it for a few hours, then vacuum it up. Baking soda helps get rid of the lingering odor.

Things to Consider While Cleaning Felt Dog Bed:

  • Never use hot boiling water on the dog bed, which might warp the texture.
  • Avoid vigorous scrubbing, as it may be too harsh on the felt.
  • Although using a washing machine on dog beds is not recommended, the additional cover can be cleaned in the washing machine.
  • Do not use bleach, which can degrade the material and harm your pet.
  • Store your felt dog bed in a cool, dry place to avoid mold growth.
  • To remove dust or loose debris, shake the bed well.

Just as it is important to wash up your dog and maintain dog care basics, it is essential to keep the felt dog bed clean. Regularly caring for the bed not only ensures a fresh and comfortable resting spot for your pet but also maximizes the benefits of having a felt dog bed, such as its durability, warmth, and overall hygiene.

Remember, to keep your dog happy, a clean dog bed is a must.
